My name is Beatrix Veal and I am the Complementary Therapy coordinator at St Michael’s Hospice. My role involves coordinating a team of voluntary complementary therapists to offer treatments for the hospice and day hospice patients, and out patients, as well as for their families, careers and the staff of St Michael’s. St Michael’s hospice was opened in 1984 to serve the population of Hereford and the surrounding counties. The aim of the Hospice is to care for people who have life limiting illness and to support their families, friends and careers. No charge is made for the services. As a registered charity St Michael’s is reliant on voluntary giving for more than 80% of its income. The high standard of care offered by the hospice is helped by the wonderful volunteers who work here; Receptionists; home makers; drivers; and complementary therapists to name a few. We are presently in need of more complementary therapist volunteers to help us meet the needs of our patients. As you can imagine this is very worthwhile work. We get to support people through an important life journey. Often people who would never access complementary therapies otherwise. Would it be possible to pass on this request to members of your association who live this side of the country and might be interested in offering their time and skills (once weekly, fortnightly, or ad hoc)?
