Why Join NAMMT?
Block Professional Indemnity Insurance
It is a requirement of full membership that you have insurance to practice. NAMMT members can take advantage of our block scheme insurance which we have had for many years. It is very competitively priced and well worth having. In this modern litigious society it is vital to have adequate insurance whether you are treating friends and family or have a large multimodality clinic. Accidents can and do happen and clients can make claims against you and your business. No one can predict these events so be prepared.
We recommend a minimum insurance cover of £3,000,000 for Massage Therapists and £5,000,000 for Manipulative Therapists. Our Block Insurance takes this into account. Please contact us for more details.
Professional Support
Professional Associations exist primarily to care for and support their members and NAMMT tries to be there for you if any concerns arise. We can give advice about treating certain conditions, but recognising and acknowledging your skill level is your own responsibility, and you are expected to achieve and maintain a high level of clinical skill and fulfil the required Continuing Professional Development. To retain membership, we ask that you undertake a minimum of 20 hours of CPD 12 of which should be formal learning per annum.
NAMMT provides opportunities for CPD by facilitating an annual CPD day and an AGM with lectures and networking, but we are not a CPD provider.
Improving your Professional Career
Therapists need to constantly maintain and improve their practice and keep up to date with changes in techniques, knowledge and additional modalities to stay current and engaged in the industry. We try to keep members up to date and inspired by keeping in touch and offering learning opportunities. We send out a bi-annual newsletter and provide an AGM which is free of charge as well as a free CPD day and First aid training day which is also essential for membership
Protecting the Public
Massage is recognised by The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) as a valid form of treatment for patients in the NHS. Insurance companies and private health companies will be looking for well qualified Professional Massage and Manipulative Therapists before they can place anyone on their approved register of therapists. Having NAMMTs designated letters (Mass.Th) or (Manip.Th ) after your name shows that a Professional Association has accepted you and your treatments comply with National Standards
Representing Professional Practitioners
Whether you work from home or have a clinic, being a member of NAMMT indicates that you have the relevant qualification and insurance to practice. It demonstrates that your training meets National Standards for your chosen modality and you can conduct yourself in a safe and professional manner.
NAMMT recommends displaying your membership certificate along with current qualifications in a visible prominent position within your premises to allay any fear and to reassure your clients that you are a competent and registered therapist.
